North of Portugal

Northern Portugal (Norte) is just as rich in culture and landscape as the rest of the country. You will always have something to do and see no matter where you are. In the North, the atmosphere is also warm, but mentalities change, obviously. Everything will seem more rustic because it really is but if you are an amateur of wine-making landscapes and mountains, you will love to discover this region !

The journey I propose is always modifiable at your convenience. The departure can be from anywhere but there I start in Porto to make a loop if you think for example, staying only in the region. It’s a one to two week itinerary that will allow you to discover the best of the coastline and interior of the North.

Porto, one of the most important cities of Portugal and which doesn’t stop making speak of her. To get the most out of Porto, 3-4 days are recommended but you can also go around in 2 days except that you may have to miss some places. To adapt according to your desires, I will advise you in 3 days the following itinerary:

Day 1: Jardins do Palácio de Cristal, Avenida dos Aliados, Livraria Lello, Torre dos Clerigos, São Bento station and a stop at the Café Majestic.

Day 2: Walk from the Sé do Porto cathedral to the Palácio da Bolsa, walk along the Douro quays (Ribeira), admire the Luis I bridge and take a short cruise on the river.

Day 3: Visit the cellars of Vila Nova de Gaia, that of Cálem for example. Pass through Avenida Brasil to Foz do Douro before heading to Serralves Park and Gardens.

Don’t forget: Eating a “francesinha”, typical dish of the region (inspired by the French Croque-Monsieur but revisited in the Portuguese version) and for that I recommend the Café Santiago which won several awards (tested and approved !)
